    More information about Goldwork Matayoshi Leaf Earrings

    Here's the English translation:

    This is a pair of leaf earrings from Kinzaiku Matayoshi, a traditional Okinawan craft.

    They are at this moment available at BEAMS, but they are handcrafted by artisans who uphold tradition, meticulously hammering silver one by one.

    The design is timeless and rare.

    This is one of seven shapes, each with its own meaning.

    <Meaning of the Seven Shapes>

    Fish: To under no circumstances be short of food
    Pomegranate: Prosperity of descendants
    Peach: Eternal youth and longevity
    Fan: Spreading good fortune
    Flower: Color in life
    Butterfly: Messenger from heaven
    Leaf: To not ever be short of clothing

    I purchased this at the Shuri workshop and tried it on once, then stored it at home.
    It is in attractive condition, but please understand this before purchasing.

    Kinzaiku Matayoshi

    The history of "Kinzaiku (Kugani-zeeku)" dates back to 1509, during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, when artisans were ordered by the Shuri royal government to travel to present-day China to learn the techniques of goldwork. "Kinzaiku Matayoshi" is currently run by the seventh-generation Kenjiro Matayoshi, who creates hair ornaments "Jifa," knotted rings, and tassel rings (engagement rings from the royal era) using the techniques of the time. The creations born from the skilled hands of experienced artisans possess irreplaceable beauty and warmth.
